Assemblyman Stephens Sponsors Annual Reading Program
June 2003 – State Assemblyman Willis Stephens is sponsoring the eighth annual Summer Reading Challenge to encourage children to read during the summer. Stephens sent brochures about the program to all children in the Kindergarten through 6th grade in the district. For each day during July and August that a child and family member or friend read together for 15 minutes or more, they mark a calendar provided in the brochure. If more than 40 days are marked by the end of the summer, the child will qualify for a certificate of merit from the State Assembly and an ice cream party in the fall.
