BABY SITTING CLASS (back to top)
The Recreation Dept sponsors Baby Sitting courses for boys and girls in 6th
grade and up.
Call the Recreation Dept. for a registration form and schedule at

This class is open to students ages 11-15 and students are provided with
information and skills necessary to offer safe and responsible care for
children. This program will help participants develop skills in leadership,
safety and safe play, basic care, first aid and professionalism. Call the
Recreation Office to sign up, spaces are limited.

Fall Schedule to be announced
Our organization is a not-for-profit organization servicing the needs of
over 500 children in our community. We offer fall and spring programs and
sponsor tournament teams during the summer. As always, we encourage parents
to volunteer and support our programs. We are 100% committed to our youth
and put all funds back into the programs. We encourage you to contact any
of the Board Members with your comments and questions.

North Salem Cub Scout Pack #1 has about 65 boys at present. The Pack meets
every 3rd Friday of the month in the PQ cafeteria.

GENERAL INFORMATION (back to top)
Refund Policy: A full refund will be given if the Recreation
Department cancels the program. If the participant moves from Town, or
becomes ill, a full or pro-rated refund will be based on the number of
sessions the participant attended. A doctor’s medical note must
accompany the refund request due to illness. All refund requests must be
made in writing to the Superintendent of Recreation for consideration.
Returned Checks: Any check returned by the bank will be subject to
an additional $15 charge.
Insurance: The Town of North Salem does not carry insurance to cover
hospitalization or medical costs of persons injured while participating in
programs.
All persons participate at their own risk.

JOE BOHRDRUM PARK (back to top)
Location: at the top of Sunset Drive, accessible from Daniel Road
off Hardscrabble Road or Oak Ridge Road off Titicus Road.
Facilities: 2 tennis courts, a regulation size soccer field, 2
baseball fields, a children’s playground and a picnic area.
Reserve the Park: Joe Bohrdrum Park is available to town
organizations and residents on a reserve basis. If your organization wishes
to reserve the park for a specific date, permission may be obtained from
the Recreation Department.

RECREATION CARDS (back to top)
A recreation card is required for all activities run by the department and
for use of the tennis courts. Cards are issued by the Recreation Department
and are free to residents. Non-residents must pay a $100 annual fee per
family. Non-residents are families residing outside the town limits but
within the North Salem School District.

SENIOR CITIZEN ACTIVITIES (back to top)
Senior Citizen Club: If you are 55 years of age or older, you are eligible
to join our extremely popular senior citizen club. We have over one hundred
members – come join us and see what it’s all about. Meetings
are held at 11:30am on the second Tuesday of the month at Bloomerside
Pavilion. Seniors are asked to bring their own bag lunch and desert and
club members will provide coffee. At 12:30pm the Business Meeting begins
followed by a speaker and announcements of upcoming events, trips, etc. The
Visiting Nurse of Hudson Valley is also present to provide free blood
pressure reading and free testing of blood sugar from 11am – 1pm. For
more information about upcoming events call the Recreation Office. The Arts
& Crafts class meets the last Tuesday of the month at the Hammond
Museum. Pre-registration is required.
Nutrition Program: The Somers-North Salem-Lewisboro Nutrition
Program is held at Wayne Van Tassel Memorial Park, Route 139, Somers. It
provides lunch Monday through Friday at noon. Lunch reservations MUST be
made one day in advance by calling 232-0807 between 10:30am and 1:30pm. The
suggested contribution is $2.00.
Senior Citizen Van: The Town of North Salem runs a van to the
nutrition site on Tuesdays and Thursdays and a shopping trip on Fridays.
The suggested contribution for transportation is $1.00. Contributions are
used to extend services. No one will be denied service due to inability to
contribute. If you would like to be placed on the van pick up list, call
Barbara at 232-0807, when making your lunch reservation. The suggested
contribution is $1.00 round trip. Senior van drivers are Harold Daros,
Patricia Tompkins and Trish Adams. Dissatisfaction with this service or
suggestion should be communicated to the Superintendent of Recreation.
Senior Art Classes: Instructor Pat Sallstrom will conduct Arts &
Crafts classes on the last Tuesday of the month at the Hammond Museum. Join
fellow senior citizens from 9:30am – 11:15am for an enjoyable time.
Projects vary from season to season, using various mediums. Call the
recreation office one week in advance to register.
Senior Citizen Holiday Shopping: Dates to be announced
The Recreation Department offers
shopping trips to Wal-Mart in Cortland in November and early December.
Volunteer Drivers Needed: Volunteers are needed to deliver lunches
to home bound seniors. Monday - Friday from approximately Noon to 1:30pm.
If you can help one day a week or be a substitute driver, please call the
Recreation Department.
North Salem F.I.S.H.: “Friends in Service Here” –
is a group of concerned neighbors who offer emergency rides to those who
have no other means of transportation, primarily to doctors’
appointments, clinics and hospitals. This free service can be obtained by
calling 277-5800 (Waterview Nursing Care Center). Our coordinator Kay
Sullivan is in need of help with phone calls between clients and drivers.
If you can help MAKE PHONE CALLS or HELP DRIVE ambulatory neighbors one or
two days a month, please call the Recreation Office.
The Recreation Department receives calls from time to time about assistance
for residents with housekeeping, shopping, meal preparation, companionship
or transportation. Patti Tompkins a North Salem resident runs a service
called Countryside Home Companions that may be of service. Call Patti at

SOCCER - EAST HUDSON SOCCER LEAGUE (back to top)
Ron Hendrie Summer Soccer Camp - For girls and boys in grades 4
through 10.
Caetano Summer Soccer Camp - For girls and boys age 4 _ to 10.
The East Hudson Soccer League is a competitive travel soccer teams
for players between 9 and 18 years old. Teams are formed by tryouts and are
placed in one of three levels of compettion of division based on ability.
Skill development, team playand enjoyment of the game are all emphasized.

NORTHEAST WESTCHESTER SPECIAL RECREATION (back to top)
Northeast Westchester Special Recreation, established in the early
1970’s is a community based therapeutic agency serving children and
adults with developmental disabilities in the northeast portion of
Westchester County.
Programs offer a variety of year-round recreational activities designed
with the specific support needed for participant success in this
environment. Programs may focus on teaching skills, fostering fun and
friendships or teaching or correcting social or behavioral deficiencies.
Superintendent of Recreation, Beverly Golisano, sits on the Board of
Directors and may be called for more information.
