North Salem Schools COVID-19, Coronavirus Update No. 12 March 26, 2020

When will the schools reopen?
This is the question on all of our minds. Once the Governor declared a state of emergency, only he has the authority to establish a date when schools can reopen. We are preparing for an extended school closure well beyond April 1st.

Will the budget referendum and trustee elections still be held on May 19th?
Although we do not have any guidance yet, it is not likely that budget referendum will be held on May 19th. We will let you know the details as soon as we receive them.

At the local level, Section I continues to have conversations on how they can (hopefully) provide participation opportunities for our student-athletes this spring. The Section 1 Executive Committee, Athletic Council and Championship Committee are all closely monitoring the situation. The Section 1 Executive Committee is scheduled to meet on Monday, March 30th and will reassess the status of spring sports in Section 1. NYSPHSAA has established Monday, April 27 as a determination date to officially examine the feasibility of hosting the NYSPHSAA Spring State Championships. Modified Sports and Open House are postponed until further notice.

Tompkins Field Is Closed
We are closing Tompkins field for the safety of all.

The Westchester Food Bank will continue to bring their mobile food pantry back to North Salem every Wednesday for free food distribution for those in need. The pantry will be on the MSHS campus, from 9 – 11 am. Please follow social distancing when picking up food. If you need food delivered, click here to request delivery.

New, starting next week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11:00 to 1:00 at the MSHS, we will be providing curbside Grab and Go bagged breakfast and lunch for our students under age 18. Use this link to register. Please do not get out of your car. A volunteer bring your bag to your car, just pop the trunk for us. Click here for Grab and Go Meals Survey link.

As the technology needs of families are ever-changing, we have created another Family Technology Survey to fulfill these requests. Our hope is to collect this information this week and have a technology pick-up on Monday, March 30, 2020, at the MSHS. Please look for further information from the Superintendent to confirm the date and time of this technology pick-up.  Please complete a new form for EACH student for whom you are requesting a device. We are asking for address and contact information as well in case we need to deliver the devices due to State confinement regulations. The survey is linked here NS Family Technology Survey Needs

Next Update Monday, or sooner if necessary.
