Credit Cards and Electronic Checks

When making a tax payment by credit card or electronic check, only a full school installment or whole school tax payment, matching your 2023/2024 school tax bill, will be accepted. Be sure to have your tax bill in front of you. Penalties will be applied after the October 2, 2023 due date for the first installment or the February 1, 2024 due date for the second installment. When paying your 2024 State, County and Town tax, only a whole payment will be accepted.  Penalties will be applied after the April 30, 2024 due date.  Please note third-party convenience fees will be applied. Be sure to print out your receipt at the end of your transaction. You may not pay part of any tax payment by credit card and send the rest in via check or visit the tax office with cash for the balance.  Any such payment efforts will be reversed and the proper penalties will be applied. Postmarks

If mailing taxes within the last few days of the month in which due, make sure that you witness a timely and valid postmark affixed to the envelope. Postage meter, i.e. Pitney Bowes, and foreign postmarks are not acceptable. U.S.. Postal Service, Airborne Express, UPS and Fed Ex are the only acceptable postmarks. Without a valid postmark, payment is deemed made on the date of receipt.

Postage Purchased Online

As stated above, without a valid postmark, payment is deemed made on the date of receipt. Homeowners printing out stamps for postage purchased online must be aware that there are no fields in place which prove the date of mailing for your item. Additionally, the automated postal sorting system is not canceling any of these stamps. Homeowners who mail their payments should make sure that they witness a timely and valid U.S.. postmark affixed to the envelope.  Postage meters, i.e.. Pitney Bowes, and foreign postmarks are not acceptable. U.S.. Postal Service, Federal Express and UPS are the only acceptable postmarks.

Online Payments Sent From Your Bank via Bulk Rate Permits

Without a valid postmark, payment is deemed made on the date of receipt. Homeowners who pay scheduled tax payments via their banks must know that the banks send those payments with a bulk rate permit. The envelopes do not show when the envelope is actually placed in the U.S.. Postal Service mailbox. Also, those envelopes are not endorsed by the postal service due to the bulk rate permit. Please be sure not to pay this way at the last minute since there is no way to trace the mailing date. Penalty is due if it is received after the day of interest-free collection.  

Notice of Taxes Due

NY State law provides that a property owner is not relieved of the responsibility for payment of taxes or interest prescribed by law despite the failure to receive a notice of such taxes due.
